Talk about being thrown into the deep
end. Here I am, the start of my university life, not quite sure what will come
after this. I have to admit the whole experience is a little daunting. As I
walk into my first lecture for JOUR1111 hoping it will slowly ease me in to
what I will want to do with the rest of my life, bam! YOU ARE THE JOURNALIST!
So much for a slow introduction.
It all seems a bit confronting to me. I am
Jess by the way, your average 19 year old girl from Brizzy. First year Bachelor
Science/Bachelor Arts degree. I am planning on doing a little bit of
everything, just to keep my options open. I am only just getting back into the whole
world of study. I took last year off as a gap year, well deserved I thought (my
parents would question this). I ended up living in South America for 4 months,
which was absolutely amazing and totally surreal and has left me with a serious
case of the travel bug.
Hearing about this blog assignment was
surprisingly scary, I am not a new blogger. My trip gave me some experience in
this department but to have what I say judged and eventually marked, is a bit
nerve-racking. Although, if this ends up being my career I guess I should start
getting used to the idea.
I became a journalist to come as close as
possible to the heart of the world.

American Publisher & Editor
After my experience last year, all I
really wanted to do was make connections, know everything about this world and
in effect ‘come as close as possible to the heart of the world’. Thus
journalism seemed the right and obvious option to consider. My other choice is
Political Science, which doesn’t seem like the greatest option according to
Auberon Waugh.
Generally speaking, the best people nowadays go
into journalism, the second best into business, the rubbish into politics and
the shi*s into law.

So apart
from being scared shi*tless after the first lecture and being introduced to,
without a doubt, the most unique and comical lecturer of all my subjects (@DrBruceRedman),
although that considering that my other subjects are taught by science and
politics lecturers, it only makes sense. The big question that stuck with me
was, ‘What do I think?’ to be honest I have no idea. But I am excited to find
out.
Till Next Time…
